Legislature: FMD Containment Efforts must Be Stepped Up Ahead of Idul Adha

Jakarta Legislative Council (DPRD) Commission B Chairman Ismail says the Jakarta administration and the public to remain vigilant against the spread of foot-and-mouth disease (FMD) in Qurbani animals ahead of Idul Adha 1443 Hijri.

The administration has acted quickly in handling the FMD case so far

He had coordinated with the Head of the Maritime, Agricultural, and Food Security (KPKP) Agency in advocating for several breeders and traders of Qurbani animals to report their animals if they were affected by FMD.

"The administration has acted quickly in handling the FMD case so far," he stated, Tuesday (7/6).

According to him, the administration must ensure that every animal slaughtered during Idul Adha is suitable for public consumption.

Therefore, the agency must continuously socialize the call center number regarding the findings of the FMD case, as well as facilitate the provision of vitamins and medicine for livestock and help provide land or cages for quarantine.

"Idul Adha momentum must be celebrated properly without any disturbance," he concluded.

He also hoped breeders and traders could maintain cleanliness, stay alert, and help the administration prevent the spread of FMD to their pets.

"Hope the public and traders to report as soon as possible if they see or find unhealthy animals for further handling," he closed.
